Pulkovo customs officers found an expensive shipment of new items in a passenger’s possession

A woman from St. Petersburg may lose her purchases or pay a large fine instead of the customs duty of several tens of thousands of roubles.
Active shopping in Italian stores turned out to be a violation of customs laws for a resident of the Northern Capital. Employees of the customs post Pulkovo Airport stopped a traveler returning from Rome when passing the «green» corridor. In two suitcases and bags the inspectors found 41 products of light industry – new dresses, cardigans, jackets, hats, outerwear, shoes, as well as cosmetics and perfumes produced by famous brands that have left the Russian market. The weight of the consignment amounted to almost 20 kilograms. According to the checks presented by the passenger, the total cost of goods exceeds the duty-free limit of 10 thousand euros established by the legislation.
On the fact of non-declaration of goods in respect of the citizen initiated a case of administrative offense.
– Despite frequent crossing of the customs border of the EAEU, the air passenger did not familiarize herself with the rules of movement of goods for personal use. In this case, the woman had to declare goods over the limit in the «red» corridor and pay no more than 40 thousand rubles of duty, but after the discovery of the fact of violation of customs legislation St. Petersburg woman can get a fine of more than 300 thousand rubles or lose her purchases,  – explained the head of Pulkovo customs Anatoly Timoshchenkov.
The main reason for the committed offenses is inattention and sometimes unwillingness to stop at information stands and familiarize themselves with the rules of crossing the customs border. We remind that when moving across the customs border of the EAEU goods worth more than 10 thousand euros traveler must fill out a passenger customs declaration and go through the «red» corridor, paying customs duty at the rate of 30% of the excess.
